About NoTube

We think saving a video should feel like using good software

NoTube is a small team’s answer to a familiar moment: you paste a link, and the page starts fighting you. We’re building the downloader we always wanted — fast, private, and honest about what it’s doing at every step.

Our story

Why we built this

Somewhere along the way, downloader sites stopped being tools and became traps. The button you want hides among four you don’t. A new tab opens before the page finishes loading. Quality labels promise 1080p on videos that never had it. We kept using them anyway — everyone does — and kept thinking the same thing: this category treats people badly because nobody has bothered to treat it seriously.

So we decided to bother. The products we admire are the ones that make invoicing or issue tracking feel calm, and they earn that through a thousand small decisions — honest copy, fast pages, states that tell the truth. There was no reason a downloader couldn’t be built the same way. Not a growth hack with a paste field, but the Linear or Stripe of utilities.

NoTube is that attempt. We went frontend-first: design the entire experience, publish it, and let it be judged — then wire it to the real pipeline. Every screen — the progress states, the results list, the error copy — now does exactly what it shows. You can see the full surface on the features page, and read exactly what happens to a pasted link in how it works. No dark patterns now, none later.

Values

Three values, applied literally

These aren’t poster values. They’re acceptance criteria — if a screen violates one of them, it doesn’t ship.

Privacy first

No accounts, no ads, no profile quietly assembled in the background. There is nothing to sign up for, so there is nothing to breach and no history to leak — we never built either. The pipeline processes each request and forgets it: nothing about your download is written to disk.

Speed as respect

A utility earns its keep in seconds or not at all. The page loads light, the paste field is ready the moment you arrive, and no interstitial screen exists to squeeze in one more impression. If a step doesn’t move you closer to a saved file, it gets cut — your time is the one thing we can’t give back.

Honesty in UI

Every button does what its label says. Progress bars track real work, disabled controls explain why, and a quality option only appears when the source video actually has it. Where something is still in beta — like our downloads pipeline — we say so in plain text rather than let a fake state do the talking.

“Utilities deserve craft too.”

The first line of our design doc — and the test every screen still has to pass.

Timeline

How we work

Three years, one product, and no pretending we’re further along than we are.

  1. 2024

    The frustration

One of us tried to save a talk we had recorded and uploaded ourselves. Three sites, two pop-unders, one fake download button, zero files. The note written that week — why is every downloader like this? — became the brief for everything that followed.

  2. 2025

    The design system

Before a single line of download logic, we built the part most utilities skip: a real design system. Tokens, type, motion, and every state a downloader can be in — loading, downloading, failed, done — designed and worded before the happy path.

  3. 2026Building now

    Public beta

The frontend you’re reading is live, and the downloader behind it runs the real pipeline — resolve, live progress, Save file. Playlists and more platforms are still ahead, and we’d rather say so here than let a landing page overpromise.

The team

Small, distributed, opinionated

NoTube is built by a handful of engineers and designers spread across time zones — small enough that every screen gets argued over, distributed enough that someone is usually awake when the beta misbehaves. There are no growth marketers here and no engagement dashboards. The product either respects your time or it doesn’t, and that’s the whole metric.

We won’t put faces or bios here until there’s more product to stand behind — the work should introduce us first. But we read everything. If a state feels dishonest, a label overpromises, or something simply annoys you, tell us on the contact page. During the beta, your feedback is the roadmap.

What we optimize for

  • Time to done. Every click between paste and saved file is counted, then cut.

  • States before screens. The error message gets designed before the success animation does.

  • Plain words. Labels a lawyer and a twelve-year-old read the same way.

  • Small surface area. Fewer tools finished properly beats many tools half-built.

Try it

The downloader runs the real pipeline today — resolve, live progress, save. Paste a link and tell us where it falls short.
